Almsgiving Opportunities
Catholic Relief Services - Operation Rice Bowl

Encounter Lent through the CRS Rice Bowl plan for prayer, fasting and giving.  75% of your alms will support CRS programs around the world; 25% will stay in the Archdiocese of Chicago to help ease hunger and poverty locally.

2017 Children's Lenten Project - Trees that Feed Foundation
Planting Trees to Feed People, Create Jobs, and Benefit the Environment

Our goal is to plant 466 trees in and around Jeremie, Haiti and to provide 9,900 bowls of bread fruit porridge for the children of Jeremie.  $15=1 Bread Fruit Tree; $10=33 Meals.  Money saved by participating in our Carbon Fast actions will help this cause.  Packets with more information are available in the back of church.

As part of our Lenten resolutions, in collaboration with Ascension's HOME Team, we are asking our Parish to consider making small sacrifices that conserve energy and help to honor our Mother Earth.  Please see the calendar below for ideas on how to make this important initiative a part of your family's Lenten promises.

Members of Ascension's Religious Education Program and HOME Team collaborated to create the 2017 Ascension Carbon Fast/Trees that Feed Lenten Project.  Thanks to Diane Moriarty, DRE, Carolyn Cullen, Cathi Knickrehm, Gina Orlando and Linda Pieree with support from Mary Jo Burns, Deb Rodde and Matt Goto and other parish staff.

The mission of Ascension's HOME (Honoring Our Mother Earth) Environmental Green Team is help the parish engage with environmental actions to care for our common home and the people affected by our overuse of resources.  These actions are requested by Pope Francis in his 2015 encyclical Laudato Si': On Care For Our Common Home and are encouraged by Cardinal Cupich.  Gina Orlando guides these efforts at Ascension. This visionary letter is addressed to the people of the world
