In our 24/7 media-dominated culture and where lying has become “normal,” where disregard for ethical norms and behavior has infected our families, workplaces, churches, politics, how do we form and nurture our conscience? Adult Faith Formation Committee in partnership with Religious Education and Ascension School, invites adults and teens to a presentation with questions and answers by Dr. Gina Wolfe, Professor of Theological Ethics at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago. Refreshments will be served at 7:00 pm and the talk will begin promptly at 7:30 pm.
The Church teaches that “conscience is the most intimate center and sanctuary of a person, in which he or she is alone with God whose voice echoes within them.” (Gaudium et spes 16).
What are we to make of this? How do we hear God’s “still, small voice” stirring in our hearts and guiding us? It can be a daunting challenge to form and nurture our conscience. Gina Wolfe will help us explore conscience and its place in the development of the human person. She will address the distinction between formed and informed conscience as well as the primacy of conscience. She will also consider the role of character development and the spiritual life both of which are vital to the formation of conscience.
Dr. Wolfe is a wife and mother, and a Senior Wicklander Fellow at the Institute for Business and Professional Ethics, DePaul University, and was Christopher Chair in Business Ethics at Dominican University’s Brennan School of Business.
