HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE
OBSERVING THE PASCHAL FAST

Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence from meat. Fasting allows for a single full meal and two lesser meals.  Abstinence is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years and older. Fasting is to be observed by all Catholics ages 18-59. The Second Vatican Council also urged: “Let the Paschal Fast (this is not the penitential fast of Lent) be kept sacred. Let it be observed everywhere on Good Friday and, where possible, prolonged throughout Holy Saturday, as a way of coming to the joys of the Sunday of the Resurrection with uplifted and welcoming heart” (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 110). Lent ends with sundown on Holy Thursday and the Triduum begins. From sundown on Holy Thursday to sundown on Easter Sunday these are the holiest days in Christendom.
