The Ascension Parish family is one that relies on the gifts of our community to provide a high level of service to its parishioners and surrounding communities.
We invite you to get involved in one of our many organizations. Below you will find a few specific opportunities that are upcoming or ongoing, or we invite you to visit the following pages with additional information on parish ministries and organizations.
For questions or additional information, please contact the Parish Center at (708) 848-2703 or email Jim Wojcik at firstname.lastname@example.org
We thank you for your commitment to our community!
The Dominican Literacy Center is in great need of women volunteers for its 2018-2019 session, which begins this September. This program offers tutoring in speaking, writing, and reading of English to immigrant women in the Melrose Park area. A time commitment of 90 minutes per week is all that is necessary. Check out this FLYER for details.
The VA Chaplain needs a few volunteer ministers to assist veterans at their 11 am Sunday Mass services in Extended Care Center/Hospice at Hines VA, Maywood.
If you are interested in volunteering to help the VA Catholic Chaplain, call and leave a message or email John Nally, 708-802-4847 or email@example.com, for more information.
ASP teen and adult participants are leaving for Appalachia on July 21 and returning on July 28. If you are interested in being part of a prayer group that will say a decade of the rosary each day of the service trip, please contact Matt to be included in this group. Matt will contact you if you participated in previous years to see if you are still interested in praying for the ASP participants.
We are looking for volunteers to welcome the ASP participants back and help them with unloading and cleaning out the vans. We especially invite Confirmation Candidates, incoming freshmen and their families. This is considered a service hour opportunity for Confirmation Candidates. Email Matt Goto for information and to RSVP.

Or gather and drop off supplies for one of our collections: school supplies for children in Chicago’s near west side neighborhood or books for underserved children in the larger Chicago area. By giving a couple hours of your time you CAN make a difference in the life of a child. Are you recovering from surgery? Is there a newborn in your house making it impossible to even microwave a meal? Perhaps your neighbor has lost a loved one and could use a home-cooked meal. Ascension Angel Cooks want to help! We'll deliver a ready-to-eat meal to make dinner a little less of a burden during your time of need. Last year, we cooked over 200 meals for families in the Ascension community!
To make arrangements for meal delivery - either for yourself or to schedule meals for another member of our community, email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will work with you to schedule a meal. Meals will be provided as many days per week as needed. If you are interested in volunteering to cook for Ascension families in need, visit our Lotsa Helping Hands Sign Up.
