The Ascension Parish family is one that relies on the gifts of our community to provide a high level of service to its parishioners and surrounding communities.
We invite you to get involved in one of our many organizations. Below you will find a few specific opportunities that are upcoming or ongoing, or we invite you to visit the following pages with additional information on parish ministries and organizations. Our parish groups are always eager to welcome new participants.
For questions or additional information, please contact the Parish Center at (708) 848-2703 or email Jim Wojcik at email@example.com
We thank you for your commitment to our community!
Women and men, high school age and older, are invited to serve as ushers at all of the Masses. Ushers help greet parishioners before Mass, assist people in finding a seat, take up the collection, help when needed to direct traffic during Communion and hand out bulletins at the end of Mass. You do not have to commit to serving at any particular Mass and you are welcome to sit with your family during the service. We hope you will consider this opportunity to serve Ascension in this much needed role. Please contact Phil Hausken at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested or want to learn more. Many thanks!
We invite you to serve as a Lector! Anyone high school age or older, interested in becoming a Lector, is invited to a New Letor Formation and Training, led by Mary Catherine Meek.
The training has two parts: An initial session is scheduled for Saturday, September 8 at 9:30 am in the Parish Center (808 S. East Ave). The second session is a practical training which will be held on Saturday, September 29 in the church.
To learn more or to register, please contact Jim Wojcik (in person at 808 S. East Ave., by email: email@example.com, or call 708-848-2703). Please plan to pick up a book to review prior to the first session.
We invite any one 16 years or older, who is confirmed, and is interested in becoming a Minister of Communion, to please join us! Our next training session to become a Eucharistic Minister will take place with David Anderson on - Saturday, September 22 from 10-11:30 am in the Church.
If you think being a Minister of Holy communion is a ministry you might be interested in, please contact Jim Wojcik at the parish office.
We would also strongly encourage married couples, especially those with younger children, to consider being trained together and serve individually at Masses where you attend and participate at Mass as a family.
All parishioners of Ascension are invited to join our Hospitality Team! This group of women and men is charged with helping our parish be a place where all people who enter our doors feel welcomed at Ascension. The commitment is 6-8 times per year. Responsibilities include standing at the church entrances 15 mins before and 15 mins after Mass; and supporting our monthly coffee and donuts gatherings (2nd Sunday Hosptitality) by either directing people from the church to the location, or by serving as Hosts at the gathering to be sure that all who attend are welcomed and introduced to other parishioners and visitors. For more details, please email Juliette Doles at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
Are you recovering from surgery? Is there a newborn in your house making it impossible to even microwave a meal? Perhaps your neighbor has lost a loved one and could use a home-cooked meal. Ascension Angel Cooks want to help! We'll deliver a ready-to-eat meal to make dinner a little less of a burden during your time of need. Last year, we cooked over 200 meals for families in the Ascension community!
To make arrangements for meal delivery - either for yourself or to schedule meals for another member of our community, email email@example.com and we will work with you to schedule a meal. Meals will be provided as many days per week as needed. If you are interested in volunteering to cook for Ascension families in need, visit our Lotsa Helping Hands Sign Up.
