Where is Ascension School?

Ascension School in located in beautiful Oak Park, Illinois. Oak Park is just west of Chicago, and can easily be accessed from the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290). Our school is in central Oak Park, one block west of East Avenue at 601 Van Buren Street.

How many students attend Ascension?

Our current enrollment is 451 students. (2016)

How many students are in each classroom?

In grades K-8 there are two homerooms per grade. The class size ranges from 13 to 27.

Can Ascension accommodate a child with special needs?

Ascension can accommodate students who have slight learning differences.

Do you have a full-day Kindergarten?

Yes, we have two classroom of full-time Kindergarten. Each classroom has a full-time aide.

What are your PK class options?

For children who will be three years-old prior to September 1st of the new school year, we offer two or three day per week options in the mornings as well  as a four day per week afternoon class (see Multi Age Program) to meet the needs of our students and families.  Children must be fully potty trained before entering school.

Parents enrolling their four-year olds have  the option of either 4 days per week or 5 days per week in the mornings or afternoons.

Our Multi-aged Preschool program is the perfect option for families who would like their three year-old in an afternoon class or for four year-olds who may not be quite ready for four year-old preschool.  This class meets Monday-Thursday.

When can I tour the facility?

Do you have any open houses?

Open House is on the Sunday of Catholic Schools Week. In 2017, Open House will be January 29 from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM.

How does your school do on standardized tests?

Ascension students are above the national norm in all grade levels tested.

Where do your students go to high school?

Students from Ascension may choose their local public high school, which for most students is Oak Park-River Forest High School. Many students choose to continue in a Catholic high school; Ascension students attend Fenwick, Trinity, St. Ignatius, and St. Patrick, among others.

How do you get involved with the school community?

Most families at Ascension are members of the Home and School Association,  Its members seek to promote communications between parents, students, teachers, administrators and the community as a whole, toward supporting the larger goal of educating the students of Ascension School.

Do you have hot lunch service?

Ascension has a hot lunch program through Food Service Professionals. Families pre-order each month from a variety of hot lunch options as well as salads.

What communities do your students come from?

Although the school enrolls students from 17 different zip codes, more than three-fourths of the students live within walking distance. The school welcomes families from Chicago and several suburbs.

What is your racial make up?

Ascension student population is 71 % Caucasian, 18% Hispanic or Latino and 8% African -American, with the remaining students American Indian, Asian or two or more races. (2016)

Is Financial Aid available?

Ascension Parish accepts requests for financial aid from parents/guardians needing tuition assistance.  If you would like information or a application for financial aid please contact the office during school hours.
