Language Arts, Junior High

Mrs. Eileen Lippi, Ms. Katrina Vainisi

The sixth grade language arts curriculum concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and writing in an eighty-minute block period each day.  We use a novel-based approach.  There is a writing assignment for each novel we read. The theme we use for the year in our novels is “coming of age”.  Mrs. Lippi teaches 6th grade Language Arts.

Mrs. Lippi 7th grade Language Arts class covers the themes fitting in and alienation.   Six novels are covered during the year.  We also do vocabulary work in Wordskills, a McDougall- Littell book, and Grammar using The Write Source

In Mrs. Vainisi’s 7th grade Language Arts classes grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and spelling will be continually stressed as the students enhance their writing skills through essays and shorter writing assignments. Another aspect of Mrs. Vainisi’s class will be to have the students discuss and debate relevant topics throughout the year.

The eighth grade language arts curriculum concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and writing in an eighty-minute block period each day.  We use a novel-based approach.   The theme we use for the year in our novels is “social justice and our responsibility”.  We also work on creative writing, along with essay writing and note taking skills. Mrs. Vainisi teaches 8th grade Language Arts.
