The 8th Grade “Universe of Obligation” Project.
At the beginning of the year, students make a collage of people who they believe belong in their universe of obligation. This term is defined as, “The circle of individuals and groups toward whom obligations are owed, to whom rules apply, and whose injuries call for amends” (Helen Fein).
Hopefully, through the 8th grade curriculum of Social Justice, students will expand their universe to include many more individuals.
The 8th graders at Ascension took a field trip to the Art Institute of Chicago on October 11, 2018.. The purpose of the trip was to demonstrate to the students the differences between Impressionism and other forms of art. 8th graders will then choose a painting and reproduce it, using techniques they learn in art.
