Music Ministry News 2023-24

 SING A NEW SONG TO THE LORD! 

Consider sharing your musical gifts with the music ministry of our parish! All adult choirs are open to singers, high school age and older. We have three adult choirs and one children’s choir in the parish. All new potential adult members are asked to contact David Anderson at the Ascension Music office, 708- 434-1535, or [email protected]. Michael Silhavey is the Associate musician at the St. Edmund site and the director of the St. Edmund choir. (Contact Michael at [email protected])

The 2023-24 Schola and Ascension Schedules can be found below.

 

Ascension Schola

The Schola rehearses 2 (sometimes 3) Tuesdays each month from 7:00-8:30pm and will sing at the 8:00 am Mass on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. Rehearsals begin in September. New members in all voice parts are welcome!

Ascension Choir

 

The Ascension Choir rehearses 3-4 Wednesday evenings each month and will sing at the 10:30 am Mass on all but the first Sunday of each month.  Rehearsals begin in September on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:45pm. New members in all voice parts are welcome.

The St. Edmund Choir

The St. Edmund Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm in Murphy Hall at St. Edmund and sings at the Saturday 5:00pm Mass at either the Ascension or St. Edmund worship site. New members in all voice parts are welcome.

String Ensemble

The String Ensemble plays for the Saturday 5:00 pm Mass, usually on the 4th Saturday of each month. Rehearsal is before the Mass. Membership is open to all high school string players. Adult string players are also welcome to join this group as well. For more information, contact Becky Coffman at 434-1561.

Instrumentalists

Other Instrumentalists of the parish are also welcome to offer their talents at various parish Masses. If you are fairly proficient at a particular musical instrument and would like to offer your talents, then give David Anderson a call or send an email as noted above. Music is provided!

 

 

 

The Choristers for young people in grades 3-8 have rehearsals on Wednesdays from 3:05-4:00pm in church. A snack is served at 3:05pm. Contact Mr. Anderson if you have any questions. Permission slips will be available through both the School and the Religious Ed programs. For 2023-2024, choristers will normally sing once a month at the 10:30am Mass on the first Sunday of the month. The group will also sing at the Saturday 5:00pm Mass several times this year!

A small Teen Ensemble will also rehearse on Wednesdays.  Teen can arrive at 3:45pm and join in the singing with the choristers for the final part of the Chorister practice and then stay until 4:30pm.
