Governing Councils

The governing councils at Ascension Parish serve an important role in leading our parish community. The councils include Parish Pastoral Council, the parish Finance Committee, School Board, and the Religious Education Board.

Parish Pastoral Council

Our Parish Council members for the 2019/2020 year include Lisa Reed (chair), and returning members Joe Barabe, Susie Cahill, Julie Duff, Mike Klawitter, Josh Risley, Marla Schwarber , Michaelene Senello, Kim Stark and Katrina Vigsnes. This year we welcome to the Council: Brittany Baer, Vanessa McFadden, Donna Ioppolo, Steve Nache and Anne Gallagher.

Parish Council members serve three-year terms, and new members are solicited both through discernment by current members and by inviting all parishioners to consider whether they might be called to this ministry. Anyone interested and willing to consider this attend a Saturday morning orientation and information meeting after which potential members decide yea or nay. Each year we are blessed with a diverse and committed group of parishioners who provide an important service to the pastor and the parish by connecting with and representing their fellow Ascensionites. The primary role of the Parish Pastoral Council is to act as consultants to the Pastor; secondary role is to exercise shared responsibility with the pastor for the pastoral life of the parish.

Finance Committee

The committee meets every other month and is responsible for long-term planning, ongoing review of current operations, annual operating budget and review of monthly cash statements and financial profit and loss reports. Members are appointed by the Pastor. The finance committee consists of Tom Brooker (Chair), Pete Gancer, Walter Healy, Jason Kennedy (School Board Representative), Emily Masalski (RE Board representative), Amy Lee, Nick Salvatore, Jim Schumacker, Bill Skalitzky, Jeff Smart, Chris Wagner, and Joan Waldron.

School Board

The Ascension School Board is an advisory group which assists the Pastor and Principal. It develops and recommends policies, recommends the School's budget, recommends tuition rates to the Pastor, helps to promote the School and its programs, and assists with fundraising. Religious Education Board

The Religious Education Board is an active board that keeps the Religious Education Program at Ascension thriving. All registered members of the parish are eligible to run. The RE Board advises the Coordinator of Religious Education. They represent the needs and perspective of RE families to the Finance Committee and Parish Council. The board is also in charge of organizing and leading community building and fundraising events such as: Advent Sale, Christmas Pageant, and Mardi Gras. Members serve a term of three years and meet once a month.
